Spring Creek (Centre County) - This popular stream, which includes Fisherman's Paradise, was fishable around Christmas when others in the region were not. As a limestoner, it offers relatively stable flow and temperatures most of the year.
Cowanesque Lake (Tioga County) - The west side was freezing just before Christmas.
Cowanesque River (Tioga County) - This stocked water was still yielding the occasional trout in late December.
Fishing Creek (Clinton County) - Typical winter fishing was reported around Christmas. This and other limestone streams fish better than freestoners at this time of year because water levels and temperatures remain more stable. Nymphs, woolly buggers and streamers fished low and slow was the ticket to average-sized trout, 10 to 14 inches.
Pine Creek (Lycoming County) - Ice floats and slush rendered this stream practically unfishable in late December.
