explosion in Tauranga was due to contamination

The Fire service has confirmed last Friday's fire and explosion in Tauranga was due to contamination of a normally stable chemical compound, sodium Chlorite. Fire safety officer Ken McKegg says the chemical had been stored in a 200 litre drum. It's an oxidising agent often used for agricultural cleaning purposes when mixed with another compound.
